Honesty

A grade school library tech has to be the best job EVER! I took a week off work for my vacation. I came back to near hero status. "You're back!" came the shouts. "How was your trip?" asked wide little eyes, and they really listened to the answer. 30 little faces sat with rapt attention while I read Goodnight Hawaiian Moon. They loved that I brought them something.

The day continued with hugs, smiles, high fives and such. I was literally beaming. Recess duty came around and I was on cloud nine. More hugs and it was even sunny to boot. You couldn't bring me down!

Just as recess was nearing it's end, I watched a little boy heading straight for the mud puddle. "Go around the puddle" I cautioned. He must not have heard me....a little louder I yelled "Around the puddle, buddy...." Slosh, slosh, slosh. By the time I reached him, he had succeeded in muddying his beautiful white tennis shoes.

I took his little face in my hands and said "Bud, you are supposed to go around the mud puddle". He scrunched up his eyes and mouth and gave me a look...not exactly happy to see me. "I thought you were in Hawaii!" he said.

Swimsuits in February

I've been back from Hawaii for 3 whole days. I think I am refreshed and calm. Jainey has decided to test that theory.
Jainey loves showers. They are her 'calming spot'. In fact, as of late, she warns me that if I don't let her shower she WILL have a meltdown. I am not convinced. We have somewhere to be and soon. "Please get dressed" I request for what seems like the hundredth time. She actually seems as if she might comply, but it is short lived.
She comes bounding up the stairs dressed for the beach. She has on an adorable polka dot swimsuit, a lovely towel around her neck and a whole bucket of polly pockets for the water fun. "Uh, no..." I begin. This does not go well, as you can imagine. The conversation stays calm however and I am placated into thinking she has seen my point of view and is changing her clothes!
Yeah, no. Leaving the house proved easier than I thought but not just for me...Jainey has already gone...as in Run Away. And yes, that would be still dressed in the swimsuit, towel and just for a nod to conventional wisdom, she's added PINK RUBBER RAINBOOTS. I know this because the neighbor verified it for me.
I love my life.....
